I just read the chapter about the Bermuda Triangle in Sylvia Browne's book Secrets & Mysteries and what I dont get is this- Where the heck do these things that disappear go?? I was reading one part- "There's one story that's been well documented in which a farmer walked out his door in Nebraska and just disappeared right in front of his entire family. For three days they could hear him calling for help in the empty air, but no one could reach him." and when i was done I thought, wait, theres no way that someone can just walk outside and vanish, its impossible. And all these boats and planes...they have to be somewhere! They cant just go poof and never be seen again! They have to be somewhere
I mean, I think its interesting and all, but (i watch to much csi) isn't it like scientifically impossible to just disappear??

That story was filched form a book by, I think, Frank Richards called something like 'Strange People'. It is common, in the Bermuda Triangle story as well, to simply lift other people's stories without researching them. Richards did a couple of books and it's a long time since I read them(I was 15 then, I'm now 59). There have been follow-up investigations which suggest the disappearance was not so mysterious but I don't have records to hand.
My experience as a researcher is that it is vitally important to seek out original reports and not rely on what's written in books.
